Injecton #4

Injection 4 last night for some reason was painful and took 3 attempts to get the needle in. I'm getting very frustrated that i dont seem to be getting anywhere in my attempts to get help for the depression i'm suffering. I'm wondering if anybody is taking me seriously when i tell them how bad i feel.

Hi Alan,

Sorry to hear the injection was tough. I try and face the bevel (the slanted part of the tip of the needle), up towards my head, as I've heard that that makes it easier going in, and then slide it in at 45-90 degrees.

Is your nurse back today? Hopefully, you can get in to see her. There is no reason why you can't insist to have an appointment with your liver physician if you do not feel that you are receiving adequate attention. Hope all goes well.

Hi Sue

I rang my nurse this morning and she said she will see me on wednesday at my weekly appointment. I asked if we could do something a bit sooner so i've to see her tomorrow. I've suffered from depression in the past and been treated for it so we knew i'd be a risk during treatment. I got lots of assurances before i started that it would be dealt with if there was a problem, feels as though there are some feet being dragged now though.

Thanks for the tips on injections, I mentioned it to my nurse and she thinks i may have lost some weight and hit my muscle with the needle. I'll be more careful next week.

Stay well

Alan

Hi Alan,

The hospital really should take depression seriously, it is one of the main causes of people not completing treatment.

I don't know whether you have the pens of syringe type injections, but with the syringes it might be a good idea to swap to a new needle if it doesn't go in on the second attempt. Each time you stick the needle in, or try to, you just make it a bit more blunt. Since I threw a load of interferon away I have a couple of spare needles.

I had problems a couple of shots back with one of mine had to take two runs at it. My accupuncturist reckons that my skin has become tougher as I have a tendancy to bend his needles. Could be the ribavirin as it has dried out my skin.

Hi Jonathan,

I have the syringes for injection but unfortunately i was on my last one. Surely theres a case for providing some spares with each set.

Stay well

Hi Alan,
I know what you mean about the depression. It hit me fairly early on. I have just done a post on SSRI`s and my experience with them on tx, come and have a look.
I did find that they kicked in fairly quick, within a couple of days.

Paul.

Talk your nurse into giving you some spare needles. I've had duff ones in the past. If they don't work first time don't try again. It hurts! I'm sure that the occasional one is badly made or the tip has contacted something and is no longer sharp.
